Have Bryan’s Zoom link?
Open the link Bryan sent you on the computer that needs help. No link? Bryan can read you a meeting ID instead. Enter it on Zoom’s join page.
Join Bryan’s Zoom meetingYou need the free Zoom app on a Windows or Mac computer. A phone or tablet can’t hand over control.
Windows and Mac sessions are available by arrangement. No link yet? Call (573) 687-9015.
What happens when you connect
- Join the meeting. Open Bryan’s link and choose Open Zoom or Launch Meeting. If Zoom isn’t on this computer, the page offers it from zoom.us. Bryan will wait while it installs.
- Approve Bryan’s request. Zoom asks whether to let Bryan control your screen. Check I confirm that I know and trust this user, then choose Approve.
- Watch while he works. You see the mouse move on your screen. When it’s fixed, you try the thing that wasn’t working.
Close private documents first. Bryan will explain any extra permission before asking you to approve it.
Windows: approving repairs
Windows may ask whether to allow Zoom to make changes. Bryan will explain why. Choose Yes only when he asks. If Windows asks for an administrator password, enter it on your own computer. Do not read it aloud.
If Bryan can only control the Zoom window, he may ask you to turn on a Zoom setting that lets him use your other programs. He’ll walk you through it.
If you do not know that password, or Windows blocks Zoom, tell Bryan what the message says. You can still discuss the problem by phone.
Mac: extra permissions you need to approve
The first time someone controls a Mac through Zoom, the Mac asks for permission. In System Settings → Privacy & Security, allow Zoom under Accessibility so Bryan can use the mouse and keyboard, and under Screen Recording (or Screen & System Audio Recording) so he can see the screen.
Your Mac may ask for your password or ask you to quit and reopen Zoom. You must approve these permissions yourself. Bryan can guide you by phone.
If the computer needs to restart
Bryan will ask first. Zoom is designed to bring the computer back into the meeting after it restarts. Stay on the phone and leave the computer plugged in and connected to the internet.
You may need to sign in again. If Zoom doesn’t rejoin by itself, open Bryan’s link again and approve his request again.
How to pause or end the session
To take a private moment, choose Pause Share in the Zoom controls at the top of your screen. Choose Resume Share when you’re ready.
To finish, choose Stop Share, or leave the meeting. Either one ends Bryan’s view and control. Closing this webpage does not end the Zoom meeting. You can also tell Bryan to end the session.
Zoom stays on your computer like any other app. Bryan can’t see or control your screen again unless you join another meeting and approve another request.
