What connected sources are

Connected sources are optional, read-only imports that keep part of your Business Brain current without manual uploads. Two exist today:

• Google Drive: watches exactly one folder you choose.
• Google Calendar: imports your calendar events as reference records.

Both live in the Connected sources section at the bottom of Business Brain → Upload. Both are opt-in: nothing connects unless you click the button and approve the Google consent screen.

There are no other connectors. BrainRoad does not currently connect to Notion, Dropbox, OneDrive, Slack, or anything else.

Read-only, and honestly so

Read-only is not a policy promise, it is how the connection is built. When you connect, BrainRoad requests only Google’s read-only permission for that source. That means:

• BrainRoad cannot edit, move, or delete files in your Drive.
• BrainRoad cannot create, change, or cancel calendar events, and cannot invite anyone to a meeting.
• Your source records stay exactly where they are; the Brain keeps linked copies for search and answers.

Your Google credentials are held server-side by BrainRoad’s platform and never enter the workspace where your AI helper runs.

If the calendar review step is relevant to you: when your helper proposes a booking, approving it sends an email with a standard calendar invitation file attached. BrainRoad never writes to anyone’s calendar directly.

Connecting Google Drive

1. Open Business Brain → Upload and find Connected sources.
2. Click Connect Google Drive. A Google sign-in opens (“Opening Google…”) asking for read-only Drive access.
3. After connecting, the card shows “Connected — choose one folder to watch.” Pick one folder. Only that folder syncs, not your whole Drive.

Once running, the card shows “Watching 1 folder” with the last-checked time, how many files are in your Brain, how many files were skipped as unsupported, and progress while older files are read in (“Reading older files — N checked”). You can trigger a manual sync, or disconnect at any time, optionally removing the imported files from your Brain.

Files from Drive go through the same processing as uploads, including PDF and office-format conversion, so Word and Excel files in the watched folder become searchable.

Connecting Google Calendar

1. In the same Connected sources section, click Connect Google Calendar. This is a separate read-only consent from Drive.
2. Once connected, the card shows “Watching your calendar” with the last-checked time and a bounded date range for what is imported.

The card reports what changed on each check (added, updated, or removed events, or “no calendar changes”), offers a Check now action, prompts you to reconnect if permission is lost, and lets you disconnect, optionally removing the imported records.

Calendar events become reference records in your Brain. They also feed a read-only maintenance view of upcoming appointments (next 7 days) and renewal-like dates (next 90 days).

Availability

The Connect buttons appear when the platform’s Google integration is configured. If the section reports the connector as unavailable, the platform-level Google setup is not in place for your environment.
